Thank you so much for coming tonight and supporting local, independent theatre.
Red Flags tackles some deeply important topics within our community - image based abuse and coercive control.
Two years ago, we began a Creative Development process where we interviewed a wide range of stakeholders (including professionals from the child protection unit, psychologists, guidance officers, teachers, parents, and students) about their lived experiences around this topic.
Using those interviews, we have built a hybrid verbatim piece of theatre (where some of the script is constructed directly from the real words of real people).
As a team, we are fiercely passionate about using theatre as a tool to spark vital conversations. Our goal is to give teenagers crucial information in a palatable, engaging way. During our development, our psychologist used the term "psychoeducational drama" to describe what we are doing, and it perfectly sums up our mission.
Image-based abuse is prolific, but by using the stage, we hope to break the stigma and start the dialogue. We hope you take something meaningful away with you tonight, or that it at least kickstarts an important discussion on the drive home.

NATALIE_TAYLOR>
RYAN GOSLING, INFLUENCER, SCIENCE TEACHER
Natalie has over 20 years of experience in stage and screen. She is known for her versatility and passion for storytelling. Her stage highlights include “To Kill a Cassowary”, “At Sea, Staring Up”, “Junk Rooms”, “Genius”. Her screen work spans feature films, short films, television, presenting and TVCs in Australia and the UK. Outside of performing, she enjoys exploring and swimming. Natalie is also a marriage celebrant!

ELI
Oka is a Cairns State High student in the Centre of Excellence Drama program. He brings a wealth of talent to Red Flags, being a seasoned performer at only 16. Oka is a triple threat of a different kind – being a session drummer, a singer and an actor. Some of Oka’s performance highlights to date include the high school musical “Mamma Mia”, playing an Elf for Box Jelly Theatre at Cairns Carols in the Park and performing as a drummer and singer for his band “Maple Street” at Elixir Bar and Crate 59. Oka dreams of becoming a professional performer after high school and plans to study music.

BIANCA
Currently in Year 8 at St Andrews, Lauren is a dedicated young performer with a passion for acting and storytelling. Having trained in acting for the past two years, she has already built an impressive list of credits including the short film Gifts Gone Wrong, a television commercial, and numerous productions through her acting classes. This year, she will also be appearing in her school's Musical production of Chicago.
JULIAN_TERRY>
JAMES
Julian is currently a student at Cairns State High School and has been in their Centre Of Excellence Drama program for the last 5 years. Julian toured regional high schools last year in “Enough” – a show about teenage anxiety. He also toured primary schools when he was 9 years old in Luke Lloyd Alienoid. Julian has performed in the Cairns Family History’s “Shadows from the Past” for the last 2 years and also appeared as an Elf in Cairns Regional Council’s Carols in the Park.

Using the powerful voices of local police officers, social workers, guidance officers, parents, teenagers, and psychologists, <Red_Flags> delves into real-life experiences and explores sensitive topics such as:
